Independent Party Endorses Alma Sarelli for Connecticut State Senate, District 26
WESTPORT, Conn. — August 31, 2026 — The Independent Party today announced its endorsement of Alma Sarelli in her campaign for Connecticut State Senate in the 26th District, citing her record of practical leadership and her commitment to bringing people together across party lines.
The party's State Central Committee met yesterday and voted to endorse Sarelli's candidacy. As an endorsed candidate, Sarelli will appear on the Independent Party line on the November ballot, as well as her primary party line as a Republican. Sarelli was endorsed by the Connecticut Republican Party on May 19.
Sarelli, a member of the Westport Representative Town Meeting, is running under the slogan "Meet Me in the Middle," a message the Independent Party says reflects exactly the kind of leadership voters in Westport, Wilton, Darien, Redding, Stamford, Weston, New Canaan, and Ridgefield are looking for in Hartford.
"Alma Sarelli represents the independent spirit our party stands for, someone who listens before she legislates and puts her community ahead of party politics," said the Independent Party. "Her record on the Westport RTM shows she knows how to work across differences to get real results for families."
As an RTM member, Sarelli has a record of holding local government accountable and keeping decisions close to the people they affect. Her platform for State Senate centers on fiscal responsibility in Hartford, protecting local control over town decisions, holding Hartford accountable to the residents it serves, and defending parental rights.

The Independent Party said its endorsement comes with the expectation that Sarelli will work with colleagues across party lines in Hartford to advance issues important to Connecticut residents, with particular attention to the needs of the 26th District.
The Independent Party's endorsement adds to growing support for Sarelli's campaign ahead of the November 3, 2026 general election.
